FAQs

Below are a list of frequently asked questions and responses. If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Is there a contingency plan should the COVID-19 pandemic continue to limit in-person programming?

Even though we will be offering an in-person program for Summer 2023, we must follow regulations set by the universities and state and federal governments. If an in-person program is not feasible, we will shift to a remote or hybrid experience.

For what dates should I schedule my arrival and departure?

Please arrive two days prior to the start of the program. You must vacate your unit by 11:00 am on the last day of the program.

Will housing be provided?

We will offer on campus housing and funding assistance to our out-of-town participants.

The 2023 cohort may stay in private rooms in shared apartments on campus. There will be one student per bedroom with up to 4 bedrooms per apartment.

Parking is available upon request for participants bringing their personal vehicles for University Drive Apartments only.

All housing is managed by WashU’s Summer Programs and Conferences. Occasionally they organize fun local activities for the dorms. Check out their Instagram page:

When and how will I receive my stipend?

Stipends will be issued in three installments during the program. The first installment will be paid early in the program, but can take some time to process, as paperwork and set up protocols need to be completed for those new to Washington University. You can receive your stipend by check or direct deposit.

Is my stipend taxable?

Yes. All program benefits with a monetary value (stipend, housing, etc.) could be considered taxable income and may be subject to tax payments throughout the year. Read this webpage for more information.
