Former CardS student selected as a finalists for the 2023 JHU Healthcare Design Competition

Former CardS student Bochun (Marcus) Mei, a senior at Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis studying biomedical engineering, and his teammates Jingwei Ling and Huihao Wang were selected as semi-finalists for the Digital Health Track of the 2023 Johns Hopkins Healthcare Design Competition.

Their project is a hand rehabilitation solution. Since a proper amount of hand exercise prevents post-hand-surgery patients from peritendinous adhesions, their team aims at designing a real-time monitoring device that can provide sufficient user feedback to optimize patients’ flexor tendon injury recovery. The group is working with a team of hand surgeons and therapists at Washington University School of Medicine to develop a solution to monitor the process of post-hand-surgery rehabilitation and have designed a wireless, real-time Proximal Interphalangeal (PIP) joint goniometer system and compatible mobile software based on multiple gyroscope sensors.
